It is a fact that Muslims have played a vital role in remarkable victory of Congress and its allies in recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Announcement of the ministers for the new government has disappointed Muslims since they are again under represented in the ministry. Muslims have demanded an increase in the number of Muslim ministers. .
Senior Congress leader Mr. Anil Shastry, son of former Prime Minister of India Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastry, in his letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanded to include more Muslims in ministry.
However, Bihar which had three Muslim ministers in last UPA government has been fully neglected this time. Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi, the lone successful Muslim candidate on Congress ticket from Bihar, was also not included in ministry.
Maulana Qasmi won from Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat winning 38% of votes in a four-cornered contest.
Urdu newspapers of Bihar carry this demand by Muslims across the state that Maulana Asrarul Haque be given a birth in the ministry but there has been complete silence by the Congress on this issue.
“To include Maulana Asrarul Haque in the ministry is in the favour of Congress which may help it in assembly election. Otherwise it may lose the Muslims votes. Therefore, Congress should immediately include Maulana in ministry” said Rizwan Sarfrazi, a social activist.
“Maulana Asraul haque is not only a prominent Islamic scholar but also a national level social activist who is known because of his selfless services among the people. Congress should give him place in ministry so that he can work for welfare of the people more powerfully otherwise we launch a protest against it” said Naushad Alam, a Congress leader from Kishanganj.
A team of religious and political leaders includes ex MP Anwarul Haque, Maulana Sadre Alam Nomani, general secretary of Jamiat Ulema Sitmarhi, Maulana Muneer Alam mohtamim Madarsa Islamia Arabia, Sitamarhi jointly sent a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi and demanded to include Maulana Asrarul Haque in ministry.
“Why Muslims have been neglected? Is there any conspiracy against Muslims? Muslims will be angry with Congress until Maulana is given a place in the ministry” they wrote.
“Bihar Congress needs to get its position in the state. For that it is necessary to include Maulana Asrarul Haque in the ministry as there is not a single minister from Bihar” said senior advocate Shams Jalili adding “Inclusion of Maulana Asrarul Haque in ministry is so important that even former Bihar chief minister and JDU leader Mr. Sunder Das also demanded that.”
In Kishanganj thousand of people sent faxes to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary Mr. Rahul Ghandhi in which they demanded inclusion of Maulana Asrarul Haque in ministry. Earlier a large number of people came out on the road protesting against Congress and submitted memorandum to the district magistrate.
“Congress humiliated and laughed at Muslim community by not giving place Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi in ministry” said noted journalist Mr. Iftikhar Azim.
