A new breed of buyable ‘devoted Muslim leaders’

By Manzar Bilal, TwoCircles.net,

Politics is adopted as career by the rich, criminals and those who have both ‘qualities’. A new breed of aspiring politicians has come up. They dream to go to Assembly or Parliament but hide it from public. They first open a ‘shop’ and make people believe they have devoted their life for social cause or Muslims welfare. Some sound aggressive anti-government, some anti-all parties and launch an exclusive Muslim political party or even Third Front. But at the end both are exposed as saleable or buyable. Take two fresh examples from Bihar.

Till the other day, Perveen Amanullah, wife of Afzal Amanullah, the cabinet secretary of Bihar government, was a strong RTI activist with focused agenda against the ruling JD(U)-BJP government of Nitish Kumar. She ran NGO Suchna Ka Adhikar Munch. She would regularly appear in dailies from Patna, holding placards against the policy of Bihar government. She was often seen sitting on dharna in front of government offices in Patna and also some other places. No doubt she solved the problems of many helpless people through RTI. Though she is wife of a top officer in Bihar government she was very critical of the government.

But no sooner she got a ticket to contest this assembly election than she started to praise Bihar government and especially Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Now she is of the opinion that no one can provide alternative to Nitish Kumar. She is contesting on JD-U ticket from Sahebpur Kamal constituency in Begusarai district. The constituency has 17.81% Muslims. Was her all social activism for an assembly ticket?

Take another example. Abu Qaiser fast emerged in Bihar in last two years as diehard and fully devoted activist for Muslim cause. He staged numerous dharnas on many issues concerning Muslims and would issue statements on every issue related to Muslims. He was not only anti-government but in fact, anti-all political parties because he would say all parties have just exploited Muslims in last 60 years, and thus time has come to form a political party for Muslims and he formed Muslim United Front. He launched a campaign against all the political parties through posters, banners and advertisement in newspapers conveying that no party was sincere regarding Muslims issues. He was recorded as saying constantly Apni Party, Apni Baat (Own party, own talks) and Musalmano ki preshani ka wahid hal, apni party ka hona hai (There is only solution of Muslim problems that is to have own party).

Then going one step ahead, he last month formed a new political front with the name of Bihar United Democratic Front. Ahmad Bukhari, Imam of Shahi Jama Masjid, Delhi, came on his invitation and third front was launched with some other small parties to counter NDA and RJD-LJP alliances as well as Congress. He announced that his party would field candidates in 100 constituencies but what happened?

Two days back his name appeared in newspapers as RJD candidate from Bhagalpur. Yes, he is contesting assembly poll on RJD ticket from Nathnagar constituency in Bhagalpur district where Muslims are 24% of total population. It is worth mention here that Abu Qaiser as social activist made some positive efforts to get compensation for victims of infamous Bhagalpur 1989 riot.

This is an undeniable fact that lack of sincere and good leaders among Muslims is the main reason which pushed the community towards backwardness in all spheres of life in independent India. They have always been emotionally exploited by not only others but also by so-called Muslim leaders.

Question arises here is: How can common Muslims trust these politicians whose sole ambition is to reach assemblies or parliament by exploiting Muslims and their problems?
